On vacation from San Diego. Stopped for a quick lunch. Our sandwiches were amazing. Best sandwich I've had all year. Turkey club on danish crunch roll with bacon, avocado and smoked Gouda with veggies piled high. Service was friendly and quick. Great picnic table outside to enjoy the ocean breeze. A perfect place to stop on our way to Oregon. Yum!
This is the place in town to get a quality sandwich! (Think i can say that after trying a competitor just the day before) Anyways.. Fresh bread, fresh ingredients, crafted right in front of you & customize it however you'd like! Friendly staff. East Coast bodega ambiance with a huge variety of sodas and chips to pair with your sandwich! Definitely seems like a local hot spot, with several customers coming in that the staff all recognized. I'd be regular too if I were a local.
It's just tough to beat as long as you arrive in time to catch the bread you want. They do run out fast. There is a reason, it's just ridiculously tasty. The folks behind the counter have always been great active listeners and always interested in chatting you up while they create your masterpiece for you. It's kind of perfect the way they have bags of chips and coolers full of every kind of beverage like a bodega would. Because what goes better with a sandwich than chips and pop? For those in a bit of a hurry, call ahead. For those with the time, the camaraderie is part of the experience. Enjoy it!
Omg I love PHD so much!!! Fried chicken has always been my death row meal, but I have officially changed it to the Italian combo on a french roll with my preferred veggies and condiments. The quality is superb, and the staff is always so friendly! Perfect for a party or at the river I love their sandos
Very personalized service. Them: "We make our tuna to order. What would you like in your tuna?" Me: "Uh, duh..." Them: "Do you like mayo, salt, pepper, relish, celery...?" The person taking my order over the phone did a lot of hand-holding and explanation providing to me, which I really appreciate. (The tuna wasn't for me and the person who would be eating it wasn't with me so it took a lot of thought to determine what he would want, so the extra patience and kindness was greatly appreciated. He liked it.) I had the avocado, cheese and sprouts sandwich on a sourdough roll - holy moley, this was a gigantic sandwich! There was at least a half of an avocado. You select whatever vegetables you want on it. I asked for lettuce, tomatoes and onions and selected smoked Gouda for the cheese. There was a perfect amount of shredded lettuce, ripe tomato and awesome onion. What I didn't find were alfalfa sprouts which I decided I probably assumed would be on it, but recall the order taker having asked which vegetables I wanted and I did not mention sprouts specifically so I think I dropped the ball on that. It was a very good sandwich.

I love Pile High Deli! Getting to customize your own sandwich is the best part. They carry local Brio bread but their Dutch crunch roll and herbed turkey is my absolute favorite. Im happy to make any day a Pile High Deli day.
